Apple Commits $600 Billion to U.S. Manufacturing Expansion, Bolsters Chip and Glass Production
Apple CEO Tim Cook unveiled a sweeping $600 billion investment plan for U.S. manufacturing over the next four years during a CNBC interview. The commitment includes a $2.5 billion expansion of its partnership with Corning, the Kentucky-based supplier of specialty glass for iPhones and Apple Watches. The Harrodsburg facility will scale production to meet rising domestic demand.
Semiconductor partnerships with Taiwan Semiconductor, Texas Instruments, and Applied Materials FORM another pillar of the strategy. "We're reducing dependency on overseas fabs while growing our 9,000-strong U.S. supplier network," Cook stated. The initiative has already created 450,000 jobs across all 50 states, with further expansion underway through programs like the newly launched Manufacturing Academy.
